My Grandmother's Maiden Name
I orginally posted this on the surnames message board. but I just want to confirm my guess on the meaning.
My grandmother's maiden name is Torreson. Norweigan. And I know it means Son of ---. But what does Torre means??? Thanks.

Torreson
Hi Maeve,
there's a Norwegian name Tørres, and a son of Tørres would be Tørreson or Tørresson.
Tørres is a Norwegian form of the Old Norse name Torgils which means "Tor (Thor/Þór)", the god of thunder, and "arrow shaft".
And there's a Norwegian name Tore, and a son of Tore would be Toreson or Toresson.
Tore is a form of the Old Norse name Thorir/Þórir which means "Tor", the god of thunder, and "warrior".
I haven't heard about the name Torre, but it sounds more like Tore than like Tørres..., but maybe your ancestors just changed the ø into o?
Hope that helps...?
Regards, Satu

That helps alot! Thanks! They probably changed when they came over or it just got misspelled. That confirms my hunch. Thanks again!
