Hi. My name is Palmira (my family always called me Palma for short). I was born in Slovenia, Yugoslavia. I am a woman, 51 years old. My mother was reading an Italian romance novel when she came across the name "Plamira" and decide that her next daughter would bear that name. I've only come across it three times before in my life. Twice it was the name of a place. There is a Palmyra with a "y" in New York and one in Egypt, also with a "y". The one and only time I'd heard of someone else with the same name as me was when I was in the hospital after giving birth to my daughter. A nurse came into my room and did a double take after viewing my chart. She said that the woman in the room next to mine was also named Palmira and that she had just given birth to a daughter. That woman was Italian.
