Is she sure it's not an unusual spelling of Julia - perhaps to mimic the pronunciation of a non-native speaker of English?
I know nothing of native American languages, but that's the simplest explanation. Plus, it would be quite a coincidence for something so close to Julia to have arisen independently.

I can't be 100% certain of anything. The story is that her father named her that after a woman he knew (of Native American origin). He liked the name. That is really about all I know about it. Have no way of really finding out the exact origin of "Jauleia", let alone its meaning.
