Davi as a feminine name is probably a nickname for the feminine forms of David, such as Davina and Davida (click hyperlinks for more info), which has been used as a whole name in this case. It has the same meaning as David: "beloved". Nice meaning :-)
The Indian name people are thinking of is Devi, which means "Goddess".
