I really think it is dumb!
Hi, jazmin.
I agree with you. I don't think that twin's names should neccessarily rhyme. Instead, I prefer names that are opposites- Oceana (water) and Skye (sky). Or maybe things that go together- Thyme and Oregano. Okay, maybe not! LOL!

Earl and Pearl will have self-confidence and individuality issues when they get older. I've done a few posts like this on the baby board of what are parents thinking when they name their twins or triplets, like your Jack and Jill example (and I have met twins with those names). I truly think parents think it's a game when it comes to naming twins. I believe twins should have separate names (including non-matching initials). If parents feel a need to give similar names, do it with the middle names.
When it comes to couples with similar names, like Oliver and Olive, or James and Jamie (a couple know). It's probably very cute for the honeymoon and early newlywed years, and a conversation starter for gatherings, but what else? I often wonder if people look for partners with similar names!

I think she is being inconsiderate. She'd better enjoy their names while she can, because if I was either Pearl or Earl I'd change my name at the earliest opportunity. I do hope they've got sensible middle names to fall back on!
Jack and Jill would be awful for siblings, but rather fun for spouses. I knew a Paul who married a Pauline, and no harm came of it.

anneza, you are SO right! similar names for spouses are real nice!

I feel that every time a person is expecting a child, before they actually have to name him/her, the namer should stand at the top of the stairs (or the bottom) and yell every combination s/he can think of. When there's a concensus about the name/s THEN name the child/ren. Everybody's going to hear the child/ren's names this way until the "namee" leaves the household (as every parent can tell you from firsthand experience.)
