the first name Coit
My husband and I are going to have a baby and would like to name our son Coit, I can not find the name useda sa a first anme anywhere online, nor can i find the meaning of it. ALthough I have been told it is of French descent. Please email me if anyone knows the name, its origin and its meaning.
PS.. it has been a family name for generations, so i know it has to be out there somewhere

Actually, I know a Coit...
and he's a top marketing executive in our company. Never thought to ask him what it means tho, and he's out of the country selling forklifts to the Uzbeks at the moment.
But I think I'd heed the advice of the others and avoid "Coit" for its sexual connotations (or forbid the kid from EVER taking a holiday in Catalonia).
Now, if you're looking for a nice, non-controversial 4-letter name, I'd suggest a nice Dutch one like "Neuk"...

Hi!! I live in Eastern Spain and in our language (Catalan), Coit,the same spelling, means copulating.Maybe you like this name and it sounds ok in english pronuntiation but think it well.

I would think twice about Coit as a name. It is derived from the Latin "coitus", meaning "going together,copulating".
I would think three times. What if he interrupts you? Coitus interruptus is much too close for comfort.
