Canadian descent, white anglo saxon. Has anyone heard of this name and spelling?

I do apologise for the spamming you've just received from this "chomikequahh" character - that isn't normal for Behind the Name! Hopefully it will have been deleted by the time you get back to this, anyway.Given your ethnic background, Nilton is probably an Old English name. The 'ton' part is easily translated: it means "town" (as in Ashton, Milton etc - click on hyperlinks for details). The 'nil' part is a little harder to identify. It could be from a personal name (Neil is one possibility, making the meaning "Neil's Town") or it could be from a geographical or natural word. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find out anything definite about it.Hope that helps a bit :-)
