The difference is that Mariah is a PERSONAL name (not Biblical)probably derived from Maria, whereas Moriah is a PLACE name, not a personal one.
The "land of Moriah" is where Abraham was commanded to take Isaac for sacrifice, and "Mount Moriah" is the very height upon which Solomon built his temple in Jerusalem (temporarily occupied by another tenant, but I editorialize).
So it would appear the words are unconnected as names and there's really no basis for confusion.
