Your foci seem to be upon Celtic origins of this name but for those with Slavic/Jewish /Eastern European origins the name/word Shanno is Polish meaning straw or hay. It is surmised that those with this last name were probably and originally involved with (either/both) the growing of/or merchandizing of straw or hay. The truncated American version is Shane. Not McShane or O'Shane ,but Shane. Some also continue with the original: Shanno. There is a Shanno trucking company whose origins are Eastern European.

When a new, conquering people came into a district for the first time, they would ask the local people (who spoke a different language): What is that? and point to the local river, mountain etc. And instead of giving the name, the locals would usually say: It's a river. Anyone would. But the new, powerful people usually couldn't be bothered to learn a whole new language so they'd just hear the word for river and think it was the name of that special one. So you often get names that actually mean : the river River, with the word in two languages. Hope that helps!

Can't help you with what it means, but there is a trucking company in ST.Paul/Mpls named "Shanno Refrigerated Trucking" so that may be a start.

for those from Poland or of Jewish -Polish origins...shanno is Polish word said to mean "straw" or "hay". It is my belief that those from Poland with this name were probably involved with the making/growing or merchandizing of hay or straw. In my case it has been truncated to Shane.

One, we don't email people.
But I don't know how u can get a report out a of a first name, they have very simple meanings.
A good idea is maybe to try some alternative sites that don't view a name by where it came from but by 'karma' like the Kalbrians site.
See the other websites thing on the first page.
Another good idea would to trace back the gaelic words, because gaelic is just from another languague, which was based on another language.
If this is an indepth research project, a lil tracing back of sematic languages might be in store.
Often people think of other people because of their name, like celebrites, conqueres, myths. So why not find some Shannon's in those.
You could write about how your name has effected you, because that is a result of the name, what it besets upon a person.
I've grown up with a unisex name, and its not been always easy.
Just some ideasMuch love~Silver
