Stewart used as a female first name
1871 Census shows Stewart as a daughter. Is this possible or merely a tired Enumerator!

People often gave their children family surnames as given names. Althought it seems more common on males (at least in my family tree and the few others I have seen), it wouldnt be unheard of on a female.'Would you like fries with that name?'Anthony

Possibly Grandpa Stewart had promised that the first grandchild to bear his name would inherit the farm. I once knew a woman whose names were Andries Gerhardus Philippus, on that very basis, though I don't know if she ever inherited anything. She worked behind the counter in a drycleaning depot, so it seems unlikely.
