Looking for Cynthia's ultimate meaning
I went net searching for the meaning of Corinthos an found out that the following had been posted by Pavlos in reply to "Re: Corinthos (looks like a job for [sound the trumpets] SUPERPAVLOS)R posted by Nanaea on December 13, 2001 at 3:37:32 PM under the subject "Re: Corinthos (looks like a job for [sound the trumpets] SUPERPAVLOS)"
I'm back and half frozen :) Well Corinth (Korinthos) is a city (formerly city-state) in central Greece known for its plush quasi-gaudy aesthetics. The name itself is derived from "Kore" meaning "daughter,maiden,and/or courtesan" (female couterpart of "Kouros")...
At first I was very pleased with that, know I could have an ultimate meaning for Cynthia, something in the lines of "woman from the city of the daughter/maiden/courtesan" but then I had an afterthought... While I've been researching all has point that Korinthos is a pre-hellenic name with unknown meaning (which would be dissapointing)... Anyway, it's clear to me it has to have prehellenic roots... Pavlos... anything to say on that matter? (sorry for bringing to life an old question)

What makes you think that post has anything to do with "Cynthia"?  ·  Chrisell  ·  2/11/2005, 5:42 PM
