does anybody know the origin of this name
Fitzgerald I would like to know where it is from.

"Fitz" is the Norman prefix meaning "son of". Therefore, Fitzgerald means "son of Gerald". This would have been introduced to the British Isles in the Conquest of 1066.
Here's a guess: Just like Fitzroy is a corruption of the froggy "fils du roi" (son of the King), maybe Fitzgerald is a corruption of "son of Gerald" (fils de Gerald Le spear chucker).
