yes they are the same , you are naming a boy arent you? my daughters best which whom is a boy is named tristian!

No, I'm not naming my son that. I was taking a personal name poll, and both of those names were entered, and I was curios if they were the same. :)

Tristian is a variant of Tristan. A Google search revealed that it most commonly occurs on English-language web pages.

Perhaps it is intended to look more "Latin". There has always been an association with Latin tristis "sad, gloomy, dismal".
