what's in a name
My mom says that I shouldn't name my kids with a name that they will be spelling their whole life. In other words, no one else will be able to spell it correctly. Well I like unique names, what do you think I should do?

Unique spellings or names are great, as long as they arnt to hard.
An example is Cameran. This is for boys or girls so Kamran or Kamryn is nice. But Kammreinn would be so hard to go through life. I have a name some people miss spell, but I don't mind. Choose a name that isn't extremely common, or unique. Choose a name that you like.
Example of miss spell
Jenzee
Jensay
Jensi
Jenzy
Jensey

If you're using a traditional name, I recommend using one of the widely accepted spellings. In other words, I'd go with Elisabeth or Elizabeth, but I wouldn't try something bizarre like "Illyzubith." Bending over backwards to use a spelling like that just seems a little too pretentious. On the other hand, if you're using a very nontraditional name, or a name of your own invention, then there really aren't any accepted spellings. If you go this route, do remember that your mother has a point about having to spell your name every time you give it. The same applies if you use a weird spelling for a traditional name--the person will have to spell it--and correct the frequent misspelling of it--his or her whole life.
I've been going through my life spelling my name out to everyone. People don't seem to comprehend that it's AGATHA without the H. It's not only the spelling but also the pronounciation!! I used to find it really annoying and frustrating... but now, I don't really mind. It's actually kinda nice to be the ONLY Agata at my school and not one of the dozens of Sarah's and Kate's. I say, GO FOR THE UNIQUE NAMES... as long as they're not too extreme.
It doesn't bother me at all to be one of the "dozens of Sarah's". I enjoy seeing poeple with the same name as me, and seeing how different we are. It's different now, because I'm out of school, so I don't encounter as many, but I still enjoy it nonetheless.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone! :)
Oh, you didn't offend me at all, I was just saying that it doesn't bother me at all. No worries. :) I do have to say that I don't like it when there's a Sarah that I don't like, then I don't think it's fair that she gets to use MY name. ;)
