Orgin of the names Dock and Osie
I have been doing family research and found that my Great-Grandmother had a brother whose name was Dock and a sister whose name was Osie. I have not come across any other Osie's but I have found quite a few Dock's in my search for family records. Does anyone out there know where either of these names orginated? I have been searching records in Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama mostly and this is where I have seen other men named Dock. We believe our family came from either Scotland or Ireland before arriving in the the US.

where did this name come from?

Osie may be short for "Ossia" which is a feminine form of the Irish name "Oisin" meaning "little deer". There's more info in the data base.

P.S.I wonder if "Dock" is related to the Celtic "Dacre"? Check the database.
