As it is known nowadays, the first man having this name was Saint Boris, king of Bulgaria (died May 2, 907), who converted his country to Christianity (AD 865). The meaning of his name is unclear. Translating to Robert is not probable. Being just an abbreviation of Borislav is also not probable.
