Re: Looking for my ancestors
in reply to a message by Marcos Clebsch
What kind of stuff are you looking for, Marcos? Fortunately for you, you already know the origin of your family surname. Have you located the town of Clave in Germany yet? You might want to try contacting their Chamber of Commerce there (if they have one) and see if they can put you in touch with the local historical society (again, if they have one) or anyone else who might be able to give you info on the name and founding of the town, itself.
If you're merely looking for genealogical info on your family, there are a lot of sources on the 'net which can give you quite a bit of info. For instance, I just went to www.familysearch.org and tried a search on "Clebsch". Came up with the following:
1. Emilie Pauline CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: F Christening: 3 Jun 1832 Sankt Marien Kirche, Danzig Stadt, Westpreussen, Preussen
2. Friedrich Arthur CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: M Marriage: 05 May 1891 Evangelisch, Durlach, Karlsruhe, Baden
3. Gustav Ferdinand CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: M Christening: 6 Jun 1833 Sankt Marien Kirche, Danzig Stadt, Westpreussen, Preussen
4. Laura Henriette CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: F Christening: 15 May 1831 Sankt Marien Kirche, Danzig Stadt, Westpreussen, Preussen
5. Marie Henriette CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: F Christening: 11 Jan 1840 Sankt Marien Kirche, Danzig Stadt, Westpreussen, Preussen
6. Otto Friedrich CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: M Christening: 8 Mar 1835 Sankt Marien Kirche, Danzig Stadt, Westpreussen, Preussen
7. Rudolf Friedrich Alfred CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: M Birth: 19 Jan 1833 Koenigsberg Stadt, Ostpreussen, Preussen
8. Therese Herrmine CLEBSCH - International Genealogical Index / GE
Gender: F Christening: 19 Mar 1837 Sankt Marien Kirche, Danzig Stadt, Westpreussen, Preussen
Try www.familysearch.org, if you're not already familiar with it.
Good luck!

Wow, I'm really impressed with your knowledge, Nan!
OK, look, I only have two days left to praise you--I'm going to Florida, and so I've got to get your whole prize in in less than a week! All right, I'm done now. :)

And I'm impressed with your persistence...
...but I really think you've done a week's worth, now. :)

P.S. Wish I had Florida to look forward to for New Year's. Have a great time! :)
