According to Greek legend, Deianeira was the wife of Hercules who unwittingly brought about Hercules' demise by believing a lie told to her by the centaur, Nessus.
As for what the name "Deianeira" actually means... I guess we'll have to wait for Pavlos, our resident Greek etymologist, to decipher that one.
What may be of interest to you... According to the Social Security Administration's Office of the Chief Actuary, there was a total of 43 girl children born last year whose parents filed a Social Security application for them, who were given the name of "Deyanira". There were 44 girl children given the name of "Deyaneira".

As luck would have it, I opened the paper this morning and there was a large photo of a Cuban woman visiting the new Elian Gonzalez museum in Miami. Her name? Deyanira Garcia (no meaning given).

Yeah, the museum was supposedly opened by the pea-brained Miami relatives to "embarrass" the U.S. Personally, I think Elian's Miami cousin, Marisleysis Gonzalez, more than balances out ANY possible embarrassment scales. If I had to be seen in public with a drama queen chick like that for a cousin, I'd freakin' *swim* back to Cuba. "That picture that they showed with the father, that is not Elian! That hair is not Elian's!!" That chick is so stupid, if she had a brain she'd take it out to play with it.
