I am looking to find the origin of my name Stuart i have been told it is Scotish, i have been told by a Scotish Stuart that it originated in Ireland any ideas

Names that people say originated in Ireland, just may have been formed or created in Scotland. Many Scots moved physicaly to Ireland. And Ireland got credit for the surname, but may have actually be Scotish.

Origin of the Surname Stewart
Walter, the son of Fleance, and grand-son of Banquo, was created, by Malcom III. Lord High Steward of Scotland, from which office his family afterward took and retained the name of Stewart, and from them descended the royal family of Stuart.
