Alaric means "noble ruler" (Germanic). Replacing "A" with "Ae" would infuse the name with a Hellenic prefix signifying "eternity" ("aei") or "ether" ("aether"). In such case, the pronounciation would be Ella-ric (as in ella Fitzgerald), with the accent in the first syllable. Had a such person with such a name lived in the 5th century, he would be viewd with suspicion (and probably skewered) by both the feuding Wizzigoths and Helleno-Romans.
