When a child is born and given a name that means: God is gracious, wouldn't people assume that the idea behind it was: God was gracious in giving us this baby? And that therefore God loved the baby? I admit, this is more psychology than etymology - but so are lots of name meanings.I find it puzzling that you should wish to wipe the smile off someone's face. Happiness is pretty rare, so why be meanspirited about a harmless opinion?
