"Knorrig" in German is an adjective meaning "gnarled, knobby, knotty, twisted" and such. Since German -ig corresponds to English -ish, the word might literally mean "gnarl-ish" or "knob-ish". Since "knorr" itself doesn't seem to occur in German except as a surname, we might surmise it to mean something like "charleyhorse". Or not.
