If it comes from a scientific book then the "lynx" theory makes no sense at all... It's just the "wryneck"... Gianfranco means "God [to be/to become/less likely; shine, sky, lord] is gracious" or "God's gift" + "free, sincere, freeman, frenchman (frank)" all these in the sense of "spear" (franks were distinguished by certain kind of special spear after which they where named)... So my personal interpretation is "the grace/gift of the freeing spear" but you may look for it in the database.
