Gabriel
I saw the name Gabriel in another post and I never really thought about it much, but I love it! I would use the nn Gabe, which I also really like. What are your opinions of this name? Any favorite combos with it?

Nice sounding, and rather fashionable (a concern if you are trying to avoid popular names at all). For me personally, it's too biblical. The full name suggests a stern angel (I always think of the story about the little depression in people's upper lip being put there by Gabriel hushing humans.. anyone remember what movie had that in it? Wasn't Christopher Walken Gabriel?)... but it wouldn't be distracting in that sense, on a real guy.I actually like nn Gabe. It sounds very relaxed, butch & friendly. - chazda

I'm in love with it. It has a beautiful sound, but it's still very masculine. It's distinguished and has a beautiful meaning/history. Gabe is a really nice nickname. My only problem is that it's getting to be fairly popular; not like Ethan or Joshua, but it's definitely more common than it used to be.Gabriel Edward
Gabriel Jonathan
Gabriel Victor
Gabriel Morgan
Gabriel Vaughn
Gabriel August
Gabriel Desmond

I would probably like Gabriel a lot more if it weren't so popular right now. Gabriel, along with other familiar names closely associated with the Bible that haven't been historically used to the same extent as classics like John and Joseph and Benjamin -- like Caleb, Noah, Isaac, Elijah and Isaiah -- are all the rage currently. (The preceding sentence was probably confusing, but I'm too lazy to attempt to reword it for clarification.)Gabriel has a nice sound, but it seems a little long for daily use and I really dislike the nickname Gabe. It just has an ugly, grating sound, and it reminds me of "gobble," like a turkey or something. Heh, but maybe that's just me.The first combo that springs to mind is Gabriel Benjamin, but it really all depends on what works with your last name. I think a classic name would work best; Gabriel Jackson or Gabriel Jayden would sound very trendy and would date the name.

Trendy doesn't work with a classic Biblical name like Gabriel. It messes it up, imo.
Jackson sounds too surname-y anyway.-Seda*

Why can you only use Thomas if he is a twin?? I don't care that it means "twin"...

I like it. It's once of my favorite names. Unfortunately it's completely unusable for any of my future children.
