I don't think it's dated. Maybe that's because of my age (35) -- I mean, it sounds like someone no older than I am, but I don't think it sounds old on a kid named today. I like it. It's very manly but not overbearing-seeming. (I don't care for Brendan, though - that has "soap opera-iness" for me.)

I wouldn't say "dated", since it's still pretty popular in the U.S., but it was definitely used a lot in the 80's and 90's. But honestly, I only known one Brandon, he's my cousin and he's turning 20 this year. I've never known anyone else with the name, but I've met quite a few Brendan's.

I adore it, along with Brendan / Brennan and other similar names.
