Surprising name.
I was at an appointment today, and there was a little baby girl there named German. I kept thinking that I *had* to have mis-heard, but no, her name was most definitely German. It could've been kre8tyvly spelt Jermynne or something, but it still sounds like the word "German." I thought, "What a terrible name for such a beautiful little girl."

It is different.
And it's not the same as naming your child America, Asia, Ireland or China; otherwise, her name would've been Germany. It *is* however, (in my mind, at least) comparable to naming your child American, Asian, Irish, or Chinese. Not even a country name, but a nationality? That's just weird, imo.

It would not be entirely horrible on a boy - though still NMS - but I highly dislike it on a girl. Germaine would be so much better (though I'm not a fan of it either because it's doomed to have the unflattering NN Germ).
I knew a woman named Russian
Her family was, in fact, Russian, and she was the 10th kid, so by then her parents just sort of gave up (her theory, not mine). :)
I dislike it; it's up there with place names.

German, according to this website has nothing to do with the country, but means brother. Paris was never related to the city Paris until only recently. I dislike the name German, but it's been a name for quite a while. I'm sure if people go way back on their family tree you'll find someone on there with such a name.
A little girl with a name meaning "brother" makes German seem even MORE inappropriate for a girl now.
Hmm...its not HORIBLE
German is a masculine Latin word that does mean brother.
I do not like it however ONLY because of the country. Otherwise, I think it'd be cute for a boy
If it wasnt a country, I personally wouldnt mind it too much. The germ- thing someone pointed out doesnt bother me because in the pn I use Ger-man, and the germ sound doesnt come across. Also, "germ" doesnt stick out for me when I see German.

Yuck!
It's the 'germ' part of the name that really bothers me.
