It's a stretch in my opinion. It's cute but I'm glad that you'd use it as a nickname and not a given name. I'd see it working better as a nickname for Isabella, Estella, or Esther.

I personally don't think either would work. Izzy is a cute nickname for Elizabeth if you want something a little more unique that Lizzy, but I don't know about Essa or Essie.

Well, it could if you really wanted it to, but to me it would be more suitable for Esther for example, or I guess Vanessa. I like it though, I don't want to write it off completely.
