To me it isn't, because it's a common male name in Sweden, but it's not the word for a christian in Swedish ( Kristen is ) , so I get a different image depending on if I say it in English or Swedish (if that makes sense?).
In English I don't think it's good to use at all, but if it must be used it is all male to me.

I think it can, I knew a girl at school named Kristian and I have a male friend named Kristen (he goes by Kris)

In Tudor times onwards up 'til at least the Puritan era, Christian was almost always feminine in English-speaking areas. I don't know when the female-to-male gender shift happened, but I think I believe it was certainly by the Victorian era.

I don't think Christian is good for a girl today though. But more for the fact that it's the name of a religion, and as an atheist/agnostic it's not for me.

I personally think Christian is not an acceptable name for either sex; many people will automatically assume that one is a Christian because of his/her name Christian.

Yes we can only use names on approved names lists. Sucks but in some cases I love that law.

I don't see why Christian can't be used for a girl. After all, a Christian can be of either sex. Still, I prefer Christiane which is far lovelier, imo.

Yeah, sure. It was a girls' name in mediaeval times. Christian was the everyday form of both Christianus and Christiana - since English is not a gendered language.

I wouldn't use it personally because it's too loaded with religion. I say this despite knowing a man named Christian who isn't even christened. His parents just liked it.

What about Christin? I would prefer to see another Kristen (however its spelled) then Christian on a girl.

I think on school registers etc she'd be repeatedly mistaked to be a boy and it might gte very annoying for her

I know one, so it doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility (she's actually Kristian nn Krissy), but I'd much rather see it for a boy.
