I've met two little girls named Laramie

but no boys. I've also heard of little girls named Bellamie, and even one named Jeramie. For this reason the "-mie" ending seems feminine to me, and I wouldn't use it for a boy.
That said, bein a live-and-let-live kinda gal, I won't tell you it's a bad name; no worse than many and better than a few. I will say that while I am a Simpsons fan and I know the M.Shepard story, neither of those references was the first thing I thought of. Those references may be enough to dissuade you from using it, but I want to point out not everyone will think the way we BtNers do, to say the least. Most people will simply think of the city. I don't see how that's any worse than naming a little girl Paris or London.
