OK I've been thinking about this name for sometime. WDYT about it?
If I were to use it would it matter that my mum's cousin is called Caterina? I don't really want to use family names.

I think it's very pretty, but it would seem odd on a non-Russian child to me. :-/ I did know of a family (from another message board), and I don't think they were Russian at all--their kids were Ekaterina Jane and Octavian Abel James (or somesuch). If you don't know Caterina all that well, I wouldn't think it would matter. As for a mn, I'd go with something short and sweet but not filler-y.

It sounds really Russian to me. I like versions of the name without the Ye- at the beginning, like Katherine or Katrina. Katya is a cute cute nickname, though. Ekaterina would probably be connected to the cousin Caterina, if you're at all close. That wouldn't bother me, though.
