Problem?
Ok I am posting this because I am curious as to what you would do in this situation. I have been thinking about naming my future daughter Charlotte (mind you I have a tendency to change my mind a lot :) )
Anyways, I have been loving the name Charlotte. I really like the name Charlotte Rose. However Lynn is a family name and very sentimental and I have always wanted to give my first daughter the middle name Lynn.
But some of the comments were that Lynn didn't flow well with Charlotte. What would you do? How would you choose between a family name and a name that just flows better?
Or would you name her Charlotte Lynn anyways to honor your family and yourself even if it don't flow well. See I feel it sounds nice but others don't think so. But I also like Charlotte Rose.
So what would you choose? Charlotte Lynn or Charlotte Rose?
One more question.... For the name Violet which spelling of the middle name May do you like better?
Violet May or Violet Mae
Thank you so much for your suggestions. It is very much appreciated :)

I really dont get the point of honoring. I know some people must honor for what reasons, but to me (for my own personal naming of the children) its stupid. I'm not saying that naming a child after someone you love, keeping the name alive, or tradition is stupid, just for myself. Everyone to their own.
So - do you want a name that flows? If you do, stick with Rose. If honoring means the world to you, stick with Lynn. Personally, I like Lynn (I loathe Rose), but I really dislike it on a girl. If you dont object Lynn on a boy, even if Lynn is a woman in the family, you'd still be honoring - Use Charlotte Rose, and then you can use Lynn the next time around if you want.

Violet Mae is my number one combo for Violet as well, so I like the Mae spelling in that combo better
I would choose Charlotte Lynn over Charlotte Rose any day. The flow might not be perfect but it isn't terrible, and I think family significance is far more important. I would never choose a name with no significance over another name just for flow (but thats just me). For example, no matter what, my first daughter will have one of her mns be Annette after my Nana. And Annette does not flow well with many names, but I don't care.

Thank you so much. Someone brought up the idea of Rosalynn. Combining the two names together. Do you think if I used that name it still would be honoring my family name lynn? Do you like Charlotte Rosalynn. Thank you for any suggestions you might have.
I prefer Roslynn or Roselynn (Rosalynn doesn't flow of the tongue with that much ease), but its okay. Personally, I don't think it honours the tradition your family has started. Usually I think any form of a name honours as long as you chose it with that purpose (for example a name I toy with quite often is Annelise, Anne for my Nana and Elise for me). However, in this case I think continuing the tradition is better and Charlotte Rosalynn doesn't have any better flow than Charlotte Lynn IMO.
Thank you for your replies they are very helpful :)
I guess my dilemma is Lynn is my mothers middle name and my middle name. My mother named me after her. And I planned on naming my daughter after me. Just with the middle name. My mother and I are very close. Its a sentimental thing the name Lynn. I just wish it would sound better with Charlotte :)

Princess-
As you have seen from my post, I had a similar dilemna. First off, I love the name Charlotte. And Charlotte Rose is gorgeous. I agree that Charlotte Lynn doesn't flow, too many "L"s too close together. However, I completely understand the sentiment. I too am naming after a dear family member. But, I am using the middle name Kate after my cousin who was actually named Katie. So, maybe you could find something similar to Lynn like Charlotte Malynn or something. I think in the end though, it comes down to what you really want. And I actually like the spelling Mae.
On the other hand, even though I want to name after family, I am still skeptical. See, I was named after my grandmother Martha Grace Ingram. Hence the spelling of my name Magi. Her initials with an extra letter thrown in. So I always kinda felt like I didn't get my own name. So using something that has never been used before has its benefits too.

Thank You so much for you reply. It was very helpful to me. And as far as your post goes. Anna Kate is a beautiful name. I don't feel that Anna is to over used because it fits in the classic category. You see there are trendy overused names that become to popular that they become very boring. Then there are the classic names that are popular but classic and not boring and don't feel over used. Anna fits in that category. Its a beautiful name and goes well with Kate. Anna Kate is a good choice. But atleast you have some varieties incase you decide to go a little different. Thanks again for replying to my post :)
And thank you for replying to mine!
I like Charlotte Rosalynn

I have a similar situation. Liana is our top name, and I don't think it's going to change. I definately want my first daughter's middle name to be after my ggrandma Clara. But Liana Clara doesn't flow all that well. I haven't decided whether to just use Liana Clara or go with Liana Clare, even though my ggrandma never went by Clare.
If I were you, I'd tend towards Charlotte Lynn because of the family connection. I'd also look around to see if there's a way to improve the flow though, if you wouldn't mind some tinkering. Maybe Charlotte Belinda, or Charlotte Rosalynn?
I prefer the May spelling.

Thank you sooo much!!! I really like Charlotte Rosalynn. It kind of combines the two names I have trouble deciding over :)
