Alexandra vs. Alexandria
What do you prefer Alexandra or Alexandria?

I like Alexandra, Alexandria seems over done
Alexandria.

Alexandria
Definitely Alexandra. It's much classier and much more timeless.
Alexandria
Although I'm not a huge fan of the Alex- names for boys or girls anymore, I slightly prefer Alexandria just because it makes me think of the Egyptian city.
Alexandria
Alexandra, definitely. Alexandria is too close to the name of the city

I prefer Alexandria, mostly because it's a level in Tomb Raider. :D
I'd rather meet an Alexina.
But I would choose Alexandria today. Both are fine names, IMO, and Alexandria's no more ornate than Alexandrine, which is an old favourite of mine.
Plus, I've been in a very Bartimaeus mood, so Alexandria is appealing to me. :D

I really don't like either of them - Alex is such an unappealing sound on a girl (though most of the world seems to disagree with me). But if you must choose, Alexandra is better by a mile - Alexandria is overly frilly and it's a place.
But Sasha is lovely (on a boy - the only Sasha I ever met was a boy, so...) and Alastriona is really nice, and it seems that's the Irish form of Alexandra.

Alexandria :)
I am so sick of Alex- names.
I much prefer varriants that dont start with Alex. Sasha and Zandra / Zander for exmaple. (Note: I only like Sasha for a boy). You get the same great meaning without the ugly and annoying Alex- that I am seeing everywhere.
All in all, to answer your question, the i is not at all needed, so I say Alexandra

Both are lovely, but I prefer the simplicity of Alexandra to Alexandria. The -ee- is just an unnecessary syllable.

Definitely Alexandra. The "i" in Alexandria seems unnecessary and frilly. It also makes it a place name, most of which aren't known for being very sophisticated. :-/

Alexandra
I've been wondering this for some time now...and I still can't decide.
Alexandria
Although I am fond of the name, I think Alexandra is past its prime & bordering on over-popular. I prefer Alexandria. It's fresher, edgier & I love the ancient Egyptian association.
