Petal?
WDYT? Too flakey, too 1960's flower child, no pun intended.

It reminds me of the movie The Shipping News. It's interesting and a bit spunky, but not exactly my style.

Petal is used as a term of endearment where I live so its sort of like calling a child darling or sweetheart for me, however I dont see it as being a no go, flower/ plant names are quite popular at the moment, I know girls called Blossom, Daisy, Fern, Fleur, Hazel, Heather, Holly / Hollie, Iris, Jasmine. Lily, Poppy, Posy, Rose / Rosie, Violet and Willow so why not Petal

It is kind of hippy, but... I can't help it, I really like it. Wouldn't use it myself though.

Petal was my dog's middle name. Her first name was Rosie. (I named her when I was five.)I do like some unusual plant/flower names, but I don't really like Petal.

I don't mind it. The biggest dislike I have towards it is it reminds me of "pedal."

I actually find it very pretty :)

It's pretty! Not your average Rose, Lily, etc.

Petal's great! Definitely not too "flower child"!

I think it's sweet in a delicate way, not too cutesy. but tread carefully it could get sickeningly sweet if paired with something too sugary.I think it would make a great mn, but I do tend to like word names. as a first name it would be trickier but it could be done.do you have any ideas?Luxiana

Interesting... and definitely gets your attention. However, your post name (real name?) Ireland is awesome. There is a name to consider...

I don't like it. I think of the character in Annie Proulx's The Shipping News (yes, her name is Petal).

Cute, in its way. I can see it happening. I'm not sure how I'd feel exactly if I knew someone was using it for real, but hypothetically I can accept it. :-) Since one of my favorite guilty pleasure names is Clove, I suppose I can't be too critical of flower parts.

Haha. I like Fern!

That's the line of reasoningthat makes me withhold immediate rejection of Petal. :-) Since flower and plant names have already achieved their own levels of perceived legitimacy, Petal wasn't too far of a leap for me to make. Besides that, I like Pet- names. Petal sounds like the pet form of Petrona or Petula or something (though I'd envision it Petel, and at any rate I'm way off on a digression).

I think of Petal to the Metal. Or bike petal. Not a child

Petal doesn't really sound like a real name. :/
Maybe try Pearl or Petunia or Paisley or Peyton...?
