Evening, nn
Evie -- Very cute. Original, without being obvious about it. A real winner.
Valerie -- For almost nine months this was to be my name. Then, on the way to the hospital,
My father decides, "There's nothing French about us. If it's a girl, we'll name her after you." Grand timing, my dear old Dad has. I've often wondered what it would be like to have been named
Valerie. I can't picture it. I do like it for someone else's child. I met one once and it warmed my heart. It always reminds me of "jewelery." I'm not sure if it is the "-erie" ending, or the fact that sapphires, emeralds and rubies just should all be named
Valerie, you know? This is a sentimental favorite for me. Do it for my Mom, OK?
Maude -- How surprising to find this on a top ten list. Very "mod" of you. Just because I love seeing old fashioned names brought back to life, I have to give this one the special mention award.
Love it.
Lenore -- Another great name. Wow. It's going to be hard to pick just one to use at a time. Nn
Lenny is cute.
Thursday -- This one seems too obviously quirky. Too-everone-else-picks-Wednesday-after-The-Addams-Family-when-they-want-to-be-unique-so-I'll-pick-Thursday. After getting to know you (sort of) here at BtN I know you're much more creative and original than this. You may have other reasons for choosing this name. I'm just being honest in how I would react to it if I were introduced to a little Thursday. Sorry.
Hanorah -- Reminds me of Hannukah and a menorah.
Pandora -- Have you seen the
Louise Brooks silent movie of same name? Very avant-garde. Very chic name.
Love it.
Katharine, nn
Kitty -- Yes, yes, yes. Yes.
Scarlet Carson -- I haven't seen V for Vendetta, but I read your earlier thread. Sorry, I'm just not a
Scarlet fan.
Carson McCullers (sp?) makes me warm slightly to
Carson, but even then it feels too masculine. How about
Flannery?
Morpheus, nn Morph -- Not an easy name to carry off, but I trust you to raise a little hellion, so thumbs up.
Edmond, nn
Eddy -- So romantic. I love
Edmund too, but that has a more statemanlike quality to it, not so romantic. Funny the difference a vowel can make. I like the nn
Eddy, also
Ned.
Lazarus, nn
Laz -- This one does nothing for me, sorry.
Ignatius, nn Iggy --
Love, love, love it!
Horatio, nn
Ray --
Love, love, love
Horatio!
Gregor -- A very mysterious and intriguing name.
Love it.
Neil -- Sorry.
Neil /
Neal has never appealed to me that much. But I'm all for lost classics being recycled so thumbs up.
Walter -- How cute would it be to meet a little
Walt? It makes me wonder what
Walt Disney looked like as a lad. Too cute. Then again, there's the image of Sir
Walter Raleigh covering the mud for
Elizabeth I dancing in the back of my mind. Swashbuckling fun.
Jerome --
An underappreciated classic.
Love the nn
Jem.
Alphonse -- I drove past St.
Alphonsus church this weekend and thought what a great name.
Love Alphonse too.
