Stella
What are your opinions of the name Stella? My husband wants to use the overly popular Ella as our daughter's name, so I'm trying to compromise by suggesting something similar.
Is it too dated?

Stella is a great option instead of just Ella. I also like:Gabriella, nn Ella
Marcella, nn Ella
Isabella, nn Ella
Rosabella, nn Ella

No! I think Stella is totally fresh, and I really like it. I don't know any Stellas, but I did run into a baby Stella in a coffee shop a month or so ago, and it was such a sweet name on a baby.

I love Stella and you could still use the nn Ella.

I like Stella much better than Ella. Another name that you might be able to use Ella as a nn for could be Elizabeth (although I like Elie better for that one)

Stella is far better than the overused Ella, I like it!

I don't like Stella because it's just a Latin word to me. I much prefer Ella.

A friend of mine is going to name her first baby, if it is a girl, Stella Ruth (see my post above). I think Stella is a fabulous name, and a good option for Ella. Though I don't think Ella is overly popular yet.Edited: I just checked the popularity rankings. I had no idea Ella was already that popular!! It just must not be used too often where I am; I've only heard it a few times. Huh.~ EM

I was so surprised it was that popular, as well! In fact, I've never actually met an Ella in real life.

I think Stella is very pretty. I prefer it over the very popular Ella. Although Ella is a very cute name I think Stella will age better.

I think Stella is just beautiful and has a more elegant feel than Ella. Ella though cute is very popular right now and not quite as pretty as Stella so in my opinion you'd be better off with Stella. But Ella is cute and sweet so if you end up naming your daughter Ella it's not going to be a tragedy because it's not quite as wildly popular as Hannah, Madison, Ashley, Kaitlyn, ect.
