I love those books! I didn't actually know the name Artemis before I read them, so it seems just as masculine as feminine to me.
The fact that Artemis is a female name is mentioned in the books, I quote: "About my name-Artemis-you were right. In London, it is generally a female name, after the Greek goddess of archery. But every now and then, a male aomes along with such a talent for hunting that he earns the right to use the name. I am that male."
Judging by that, I think Eoin Colfer (the author) knew perfectly well that he was using a girl's name.
Vikram sounds a bit odd, very spiky somehow. I don't really like it.
