Minnie

What names could you see as having the nickname Minnie? I think it's sweet as a nickname but I'm not a huge fan of Minerva and I really don't like Wilhelmina. :-/ Another site suggested Dominica, which I like a lot. Any other ideas?

In my family it's used as a nn for Margaret (or occasionally Mary).

I like quite a few of the ones already mentioned, but a personal favorite is Clementine nn Minnie. A tiny bit of a stretch, but not too much, imo, and I prefer it to Clem and Clemmy. I would love to have a Minnie but I worry about her being teased because of the Minnie Mouse association. :-/ BTW, ROFL about the "mini driver" thing. That never crossed my mind! :b

The name Minna could have the nn Minnie. I thought I read somewhere that "minne" in Old German means "love", or something like that. I'm kinda fond of this name.

What about Mina / Amina / Adamina ?Minnie is ok. I always think of actress Minnie Driver, whose name sounds like a small tool. I suppose it would be more attractive with a different surname.Leslie, lucky mommy to Scott (2000), Delaney (2002), and Larissa (2005)

Adamina has come up pretty often and I think I like it. :-) I love feminized male names and I think this is another one that I'd add to my list, or maybe Adamine. I'm up in the air about which I'd like more.Lol, I've never thought about Minnie Driver's name being so, well, tool-like. I'm just glad that the automatic connection isn't to Minnie Mouse. I can handle the idea of an actress, but a kind of boring cartoon character isn't the greatest association, I don't think.

Actually, I thought of Minnie Driver first and then *cough*cough* Minnie Pearl from Hee Haw. But I'm older than most here, I don't think anyone else would think of Minnie Pearl.I hadn't though of Minnie Mouse until you mentioned it!Leslie, lucky mommy to Scott (2000), Delaney (2002), and Larissa (2005)

Oh no. I never thought about mini driver before. Now I'll have to keep that image out of my mind the next time I see her in anything. (lol)

He,he - I just watched Grosse Pointe Blank (for the umpteenth time). Whenever I see her name I think of a small screwdriver or some type of miniature golf club. I do like her as an actress, though.Leslie, lucky mommy to Scott (2000), Delaney (2002), and Larissa (2005)

I like:Adamina -- I love the male name Adam, and tend to like female names that are male names with femine endings (Roberta, Leona, Albertine, and so on). This is a great one. :-) I like the sound of Adamine, too.
Benjamine -- I like how this looks, but I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing it right, and in the US it defitely would be hard for people to accept it as a female name since Benjamin is so popular for boys.
Carmina -- Very cool. I like Car- names like Carmel, Carmella, and Carmine, and Carmina fits right in with them.
Cosmina -- Beautiful name. I've liked Cosmo and Cosima quite a bit, but hadn't found the similar Cosmina yet. Thanks!
Dominika -- A great one. I like Domenica and Dominica, too.
Erminia -- Nice. I love Italian names. :-) I wonder if the similar-sounding Firmino can be feminized to Firmina.
Romina -- I like the Ro- sound. Rose, Rosa, and Romaine are other names with that sound that I'm into as well.

Darn, I adore Wilhelmina and Minerva. Usually, Minnie is from variants of William such as Wilhelmina, Minette, Minetta . . . there are others but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Others that you might like:Dominique

I know some of these are a stretch. But nns are the place for creativity and whimsy, to me. I can see older siblings not being able to pronounce a newborn's name such as the ones above and coming out with "Minnie."

Minerva is growing on me... sort of. I want to like it because it seems like the perfect name/nickname situation: grown up, strong Minerva and sweet, endearing Minnie. But I'm having a hard time getting over just finding Minerva plain old unattractive.Mary, Miriam, and Miranda are great suggestions. I love names along those lines and like Mamie, Minnie is almost generically "M" enough to be suited for them. I'm on the fence about Hermione; I'm almost sorry to say that I've been really wanting to like it lately, but that I'd never heard it before Harry Potter came out makes it feel way too Harry Potter-ish for me. :-/ Hm. Dilemma. I'm giving it a chance, though.

I like Adamina pretty well, even though it reminds me quite a bit of adamantine. :-) I tend to like female names that are obviously male names with feminine endings-- Roberta, Leona, Alberta, etc., and Adamina fits the bill nicely. Adamine, too, sounds neat to me.Cosmina is a very pretty one! Thanks. :-)
