Elizabeth, Charlotte, Catherine
All names I love, all are way too popular for me to ever use them. What are some classic, older sounding names of a similar style to those?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Rosemary (one of my faves)
I absolutely love Serena. It's number one for our first daughter.
Bianca has also been creeping up my list lately. I'm still not sure about it... but it's very pretty.
I like Rosemary. I don't know if I'd use it, but it's lovely.
I wonder if I could get away with Matilda without comments about Roald Dahl.
Esther, while a nice name, unfortunately reminds me of chemistry. =/
Mariam is nice; I prefer Miriam, which I have been considering a lot lately.
Josephine is lovely & just so happens to be my great grandmother's name.
I could go on, but this has gotten long enough. Great list, thank you so much!

I like all those names. I personally don't see anything wrong with classic names, that just happen to be trendy.

Well I'm not a fan of popular names. So I'm looking for altenatives.

then why ask peoples opinions then?
*rolls eyes* Pot. Kettle. Black!
Did I ask any opinions? Read my post before you reply. I didn't ask what anyone thought of these names. I asked for suggestions for names similar to these, but less popular. That isn't what her reply was at all, so I responded accordingly.

Suggestions opinions sorry must of misread but still btw you sound angry?
"but still"?
I'm sorry, but I have to say that the argument you are presenting is a little less than compelling.
And I'm not angry - I'm just annoyed, because you're making no sense.

im not arguing.in fact just forget i couldn't be bothered your taking this too personally
I'm sorry, but before I finish with this... how am I taking it too personally? It was just that you were telling me I was doing something that I wasn't. So I corrected you. I haven't taken any offense to anything you've said... I've simply disagreed.
I love all three names, and wouldn't shy away from them if I really loved them. Other old-fashioned classics that are bit less popular that I can think of:
Cecelia
Caroline
Margaret
Isabel/Isabella (which I can't stand, but does fall into this category)
Jane
Lydia
Lily
Lillian
Amelia
Anne/Anna
Beatrice
Susannah

I can't stand Isabel either! Ack. It's very trendy, unfortunately.
I have been thinking that I really like Caroline lately. Thank you! Amelia is also very pretty, but too popular for me. I'm one of those people that dreads others having the same name as her child. ;)

Caroline is popular!
We named our daughter Caroline, thinking we were avoiding the sure-to-be-a-hit Charlotte, but found it is fairly common. I truly have met fewer Charlottes!

Oh, I know. I do like it though... yet it's probably doomed to stay on that list of 'Names I love but can never use'. =(
Well,
obviously, we liked it, since we chose it. An unusual variant, I realized later, is simply Carol. It was so often picked in the '50s that it is a rarity for a little girl today. Good luck to you!

why are u asking opinions if your dismissing them people are only suggesting names?thats all just don't dismiss them you ask for opinons in the first place so try not to be dismissive.Thank you
You really need to cool it- you're being quite the hypocrite. I'm not dismissing any names; I'm entitled not to like the names people are suggesting. With each and every one I am saying the names I like and the names I don't, as well as thanking them for their input. Just because someone suggests something, does not mean I'm obligated to like it. Nor did I ask for opinions at any point. So you're really talking about nothing here.

If you had read the post of the person who suggested the name, she had also said that she couldn't stand it. So I agreed with her. Case closed.
And I'm calling you a hypocrite because I have said these exact same things to you before (about dismissing others opinions when you asked for them), except that mine was based on reality.

Technically that doesn't really make Seanh a 'hypocrite' - just very ANNOYING. :b
Haha. Well I just meant in the sense that he's telling me not to do something that he does. Even though I wasn't really doing it, which just means he's a hypocrite with no basis in reality. =P
But yes, very annoying. Heh.

I love Josephine! It was the name of my great grandmother. I hadn't even thought of using it as a FN (it was a MN possibility, but was pushed aside). Thank you! Rosemary is also very pretty. I like Adelaide and Eleanor as well, but I've been seeing them so frequently on sites like this that I'm worried they'll be booming sometime in the future.

Steph-
first, thanks for your comments on my post the other day (regarding Hayley Rose)- and my taste in names which is classic like yours. I agree with you, I don't want my child being 1 of 5 in a class - my name is Melissa and I was born in the 70s for goodness sakes! ;)
With that said, and I'm trying hard to take my own advice on this one, you can't really be _too_ crazed about the possibility of names booming because even if they don't, some other parent could have thought of the same thing and then whoops! Your child becomes one of several. A name you might pick now might boom because of sites like this catching on, or it might never boom except in your little world- that is always a chance you take. I try to steer clear of the top 100, and God forbid, the top 50 of the current year, but other than using stats and judging by people you know, anything can happen. So if you love it, use it! :)
Melissa
PS Rosemary was my grandmother's name and I love it.

I know, and I'm completely aware of all that. But unfortunately, if all names were equally popular, my first choice would be Elizabeth. Elizabeth is #12 right now... so that's certainly a no-go! I just want to do my best to choose a name for my children that will set them apart and keep them as an individual. I am aware that things may happen and they may meet others with their name; so be it. That doesn't mean I can't do my best to ensure the odds of it happening are slim! =)
And you are very welcome. Have you come up with anything else that you might use for your daughter?

No problem- just trying to help. :) And you are right, choosing a less popular name does make the odds a little better...
I think I'm just going to keep my faves list as is for now (you've seen it) until DH is ready to take a look at it and exercise his vetoing power- which will be sometime after we start TTC.
