Somerset is a very nice name! However, I do prefer it for a boy.
It would be a nice way to honor your favorite author. Did you know that his wife's name was Syrie? : )

No, Syrie isn't short for anything, but her full name was Gwendoline Maud Syrie Barnardo Wellcome Maugham (Wellcome being her first husband).
And they had one daughter together named Elizabeth Mary "Liza". Although apparently Somerset later denied paternity.
