I really like this name. Not too keen on the nn Liddy though. I don't find the name old at all. It would be fresh and cool to use for a little girl these days.

Lydia has always been on my favorites list. It's popularity in the USA is on the rise, but it hasn't broken into the top 100 yet.

It doesn't make me think "old lady" probably because it has never been rampantly popular for any generation, to my knowledge. It makes me think of the girl in Beetlejuice. A sort of creative, quirky girl. I probably wouldn't use it myself because it doesn't sound "pretty" to me and it isn't really my style, but it would be great on someone else's kid.
I love the name Lydia a lot and plan on using it on one of my future daughters. I don't think it needs a nn though and it's not old-fashioned, imo.
