Jay

I like it, and I think it's fine as a full name. If you'd like to have a longer form, I think almost any "J" name would work.

Well, in theory I think Jay is fine as a name on its own.
However, I once knew a boy who was always referred to as (and I'll just use the phonetic pronunciation) "jaytee."
I went for years assuming it was J.T.
Finally I found out it actually was Jay T. (Don't know what the T. stood for.)
I found the experience quite disorienting. Unnerving. Whatever.
Now maybe that's just because I'm overly concerned with spelling, names, etc. Probably wouldn't bother most people!

I don't know if you'll like any of those. Or some may be too much of a stretch. But, do you like any?

I know several Jays, and I still think it is better as short for something. The only person I liked it on was an Asian boy who was very religious, and whose parents had named him after the god. Otherwise, I prefer it to be short for something.
I like it as a full name or as a nickname for James. I don't see where your faves are, so I'll just give the names that pop into my head.
Jay Christopher
Jay Riley
Jay Nicholas
Jay Matthew
Jay Timothy
Jay Elliott
Jay Sebastian

I love Jay, both on its own and as a nickname. Anything beginning with the letter J is fair game, in this case--it's like Kiki and Gigi for a girl in that sense.
I have a character whose name is Jehoshaphat "Jay." He has siblings Hephzibah "Zibby," Kerenhappuch "Keri," and Theophilus "Tep." :D That might be a bit extreme for you, though.

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.

Why do they all have very weird Hebrew names except for Theophilus? He stands out.
He does, doesn't he? :) They were all given Biblical names, and Tep's simply doesn't sound quite so Biblical as the others'.
They're from a rather silly story, so the fact that he stands out isn't much of a problem, hehe.
