Jemma or Gemma?
Which spelling do you prefer, Gemma or Jemma? Why?I prefer Gemma as it seems more elegant.
My husband prefers Jemma as he knew a lady by that name that was nice and he says it sounds more "comfortable".

GemmaJemma looks contrived, like it's trying to work off the popularity of j names instead of being a name on its own.

I prefer Jemma. Gemma is more authentic, but Jemma is hardly "kre8iv". Not all spelling variants are "kre8iv", even if they aren't the original. For example, Melany isn't kre8iv; Melynee is.

Well this is a name I've liked for a long time and I always prefered it with the Gemma spelling. However, I saw a woman named Jemma and that made me look at that spelling and start to like it. I'm always going back and forth between the two versions myself!! I think I still prefer Gemma, but either way is nice in my opinion.

GemmaGemma is a complete name.. Jemma to me is an informal name, like a nickname for Jemima.By the way, Gemma is not only a name for a precious stone in Italian; it's also the Latin term for a type of bud on a plant. I like it better with this meaning. It's one of my favorite names, and spelling it with a J just wrecks it for me. - chazda

well....Latin, I guess. Plural is gemmae. That's Latin, right? I left my brain at the lab today. - chazda

Gemma. I don't know why, but it looks classier. I like it a lot.

It depends. Gemma is you want the "gem" meaning, Jemma if you want a feminine form of James. All things considered, I prefer Gemma though. My mother once had a customer whose baby was named Gemma.Miranda

I like Gemma because I think that it is prettier in appearance than Jemma. To me Gemma just sounds more elegant and less trendy looking. Names that start with a J just makes me think of all the slew of trendy J names that became popular in the 70s and 80s like Jennifer, Jessica, Jenna etc etc.

I'd say Gemma, because it looks more feminine to me..lol i don't know why! Maybe also because Jemma would be pronounced Yem-mah instead of Gem-ma...(but i'm from Holland) So if she would ever go to Holland or Belgium (and probably also Germany) it would be pronounced Yem-ma, and not Gem-ma..
