Funnily enough, I must be one of the few people who actually likes the nickname Candy! Bit it isn't inevitable. If you don't want Candy, you could have Andy or not bother with a nickname at all. But, if you really hate Candy, I would agree with others on here to use it only as a middle name. I love the name Elizabeth, but could never use it because I am not keen on Lizzie as a nickname. You have to like the common shortened version of the name you are choosing, I think.
