I don't think it was ever popular enough to become dated. It's always been in use, since Old Testament times, so nobody is likely to think of it in the way we all think of Sandra or Deborah. I like it very much, though it's too biblical for me to use. Rachel or Rachael, both are good, and both shorten pleasantly to Ray or Rae.
