I came across the adorable name "Emelyn Story" the other day, in a very unlikely place: inscribed on a beautiful Victorian monument that is quite famous. Perhaps you know it, too: The Angel of Grief, or the Weeping Angel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_of_Grief). This was the original, in Rome, but it has been copied in many cemeteries all over the world.
It was a headstone sculpted for the wife of the artist William Wetmore Story.
Emelyn was born in 1820 and died in 1894, but her name feels very modern. "Emelyn Story" sounds like the perfect name for a hipster preschooler, and while normally I wouldn't care for it, the fact that it's connected to a much earlier time period AND a beautiful piece of morbid artwork means I have an official crush on Emelyn. It's one of those "anachronistic timeless" names you come across sometimes, bizarre surprises like Tiffany, Allison, Chloe, Brice, Brendan, Brogan, etc. Names that are actually quite old but feel like fluffy modern confections.

I like it well enough. It looks much more like a cohesive name than Emmalyn, which just looks like two names smushed together.
Emelyn reminds me of Evelyn, Emily, etc. I do agree that it seems anachronistic!

My daughter has a friend named Emmalyn.
I can't share specific samples but adding lyn to female names (some male, ala Harlynn) is a very old trend.

I kinda love Emmalyn. It's so sweet and not overtly pretentious or trendy for modern equivalence imo
It's charting; I feel like it's the modern equivalent of Marilyn.

My grandma had a sister named Emlin (born 1930s). It mostly reminds me of that and Evelyn. Emlin's twin was Loveline, so next to that, it seemed lackluster (and yeah, trendy/modern) to me.

Story is a fun surname. It looks like her maiden name was evocative, too (Eldredge - I think of eldritch).

I prefer Emily, Emma, or Evelyn. To me, it feels like people couldn’t pick between Emma and Evelyn. Mainly, I’m surprised by the time period the woman was born.
I much prefer Emmaline, but not enough to consider using it. Emily is an absolute favourite, and Emelyn does it no favours.

By the post title I thought it was a contemporary sighting, but I didn't expect this combo on a woman born 200 years ago! The monument is very beautiful, no wonder it has been copied.
Regarding the name, Emelyn is not my cup of tea. It feels incomplete and trendy. I prefer Emmalyn, Emaline, Emmaline and Emmeline (favourite spelling). But I have to say the combo Emelyn Story has a nice flow.
Last but not least, Brice is a great and underrated example of an old name with a modern vibe, just like Emilia, Cassie, Ivy, Morgan, Avery or Palmer.

Not a name I’m fond of and I am surprised at the age of the name. I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a little Emelyn now though as it definitely fits right in with naming trends of the moment.
