Hebrew names meaning 'listens to God'?,
My friend is looking for a new name and would like one meaning 'listens to God'. It's very important to them. Looking for male names, but I think unisex names are alright too. Thank you.

Finding a Hebrew name that means exactly what you want it to be is impossible. They mean what they mean, so you've got to go with something close.Elazar - God has helped
Eliezer - my God is help
Immanuel - God is with us
Malachi - my messenger, my angel
Mikhael - who is like God?
Obadiah - servant of Yahweh
Rafael - God heals
Simeon - hearing, listening
Uriel - God is my light
Yechezkel - God will strengthen
Yehonatan - God has given
Yochanan - God is gracious
Yoram - exalted by Yahweh
Some names with a similar feel.
Abdiel - "servant of God"
Abiel - "God is my father"
Elijah - "my God is Yahweh"
Elisha - "my God is salvation"More Hebrew Biblical names seem to put the emphasis on what God has done/ does than on what man does for God. Maybe they don't want a name to be self-aggrandizing? I'm not sure about the cultural reasons, but it does seem common.Samuel - "God hears"
Ishmael - "God will hear",
Adaiah - "Yahweh has adorned"
Amaziah - "Yahweh strengthens"
Anaiah - "Yahweh has answered"
Azarel - "God has helped"
Jedidiah - "beloved of Yahweh"
Aziel - "God comforts"
Benaiah - "Yahweh has built"
Daniel - "God is my judge"
Ezekiel - "God will strengthen"
Jonathan - "Yahweh has given"
Josiah - "Yahweh supports"
etc...
With this exact meaning I only found an arabic name: Samiullah means "to listen to god"Here are some names, that come close to "listens to god":Besodeiah, Besai and Sodi ("in a trusting conversation with Yahweh")
Simon, Simeon, Shama, Shammai, Shammah, Shemaah, Shimeah and Shimei ("he has listened" - but normally interpreted as "God has listened")Amariah ("Yahweh has said", "Yahweh is speaking")
Eldaah ("God calls")
Elienai, Elioenai ("my eyes are set upon Yahweh")
Harsha ("the silent one")
Imri ("Yahweh has spoken")
Kolaiah (i. a. "Yahweh has spoken")
Malluch, Malluk ("god advises")
Noadiah ("Yahweh revealed himself")
Regem (i. a. "voice [of god]")Almodad ("Friend is god")
Amon ("devoted", "loyal", "firm")
Deguel and Deuel ("recognize god!")
Lael, Liel, Lemuel ("belonging to god")
Naarai and Neariah ("paladin of god/Yahweh")
Raguel, Reguel, Reuel ("friend of god" or "be friends of god!")
I immediately thought of Simon, which means "he listens/hears" but perhaps that's not direct enough? Some other options:Abdiel "Servant of God" (implying that he does what God tells him)
Elioenai "my eyes look to God"
Jaasiel "God is my maker"
Reuel "friend of God"
It was tricky to find any with that exact meaning, but here are some that are close(ish):
Eliezer - ‘my God is help’
Ovadia - ‘servant of Yahweh
Shimon - ‘hearing, listening‘ (could be paired with a middle name relating to God)
Shmuel - ‘God has heard‘ (sort of the opposite)
Hopefully some of these were helpful, it was harder than I thought to find close meanings!
