Lyra and Luna
Two names associated with space and the universe:Luna and LyraBoth of them were on my list of favorites for a long time. At the moment it's just Lyra, but Luna is slowly making a comeback.Which one do you prefer? What would you imagine a Luna or a Lyra to be like? Which images do you get?Any thoughts? :)

I prefer Luna. It’s a bit too popular right now so I probably wouldn’t use it at the present. I don’t associate the name with Harry Potter at all. I think of the meaning— moon. I don’t like Lyra. I can’t help but associate the name with the character from the Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. I didn’t care for that series and stopped halfway through the second book.
I love both, but I prefer Lyra right now. Both seem sort of ethereal and musical. I tend to picture pale skin and long black hair for both of these names. Lyra is a bit more intense I think, and Luna is more soft-spoken and floaty.
I quite like them. Luna, I favor as a pet's name, but I don't mind it on a human girl. I might assume her parents were Harry Potter fans. I would consider using Lyra. During quarantine it was in my top 10 for a while. I still would consider it if her dad was super into it. Lyra has a mystical class to it. Beautiful and yet removed. Unique in tone and presentation imo.
I like both, but prefer Lyra because Luna is overrated. It's going to become the new Emma - short, extremely popular and used in many countries. Lyra should be used more often since it's relatively new.To me, Luna is extroverted and has lots of friends. Always happy and willing to cheer others up. Lyra is nerdy and quiet, prefers staying home and doing projects all by herself.
I prefer the look and sound of Luna, but I'm so extremely tired of it. Seems like everyone and their cousin names their daughters Luna these days.
I love Lyra but I don't really like Luna.
I like Lyra better, but I don't really like the "putting the *lie*" in Lyra.Luna has been used far too frequently as a dog's name to be suitable for a human anymore.I think of a big white short hair dog.For Lyra, I think of the little girl in the Golden Compass. It's a nice name for an astrologer's daughter.

I don't like the sound of Lyra, but I can understand at least some of its allure. I really like Luna, though!Lyra would play a lye or a harp. Musically inclined, quiet, mysterious, sneaky, mischievous, likes to be out in the sun.Luna is spunkier, full of more life, and kind of feisty. Has a heart of gold, and prefers nighttime over daytime.

I prefer Luna in theory. But I would certainly not have liked to be called Luna as a child, no matter how pretty it is. For real world use on a human, Lyra is safer. But it's practically Lyla, a name I genuinely love. It's honestly hard for me to picture an actual, everyday person called Luna. It's just so.... character-y. I know there are lots of Real Lunas out there, but I've not met any. So unfortunately the strongest association I've got is that character Luna Lovegood. I picture a slightly batty person. Sweet, but not really all there. The eccentricity of it appeals to me. I think of a dog, like a friendly Labrador who is accidentally very destructive. Or a rabbit.Lyra is also very tied to the fictional character of Lyra Belacqua or however it's spelled. Lyra has more dignity than Luna, but it does feel rather "sneaky" and cunning. It feels like a name for a sleek, elegant nightmare of a person. One of those people who seem polite enough, but they always set you on edge for some reason.
I couldn't agree more with Kerilyntaryn21! Luna can only shorten to Luny or Lunie, or of course Loony, and in His Dark Materials Philip Pullman named his character Lyra because of its similarity to Liar: she was skilled at fibbing her way out of trouble.
I don't think Luna needs to be shortened but if I had to my automatic choice would be Lulu, Lu, or maybe Lune.
I agree too. Lyra Silvertongue because she ispeaks ‘lying’ so fluently. To me this name is so specifically linked to this character, like Bilbo in LOTR for example, that can’t picture it on a real person.
Don't really like either Too much like liar and loony
