Comparing Generations
I looked up my country's Top 50 for the years my grandmother, mother, and I were born, to see how many I liked. Interestingly, the numbers dwindled for each year.1926: (22)

Fun!I know the time frame my Italian great great grandparents were born, but I couldn’t find reliable data from Italy at that time. Same with the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Romania. For that reason, I’ll only go back to my great grandmothers.1912: Helen Pauline(great grandmother)

I'm not from the US but I'm going to use the SSA stats because my country doesn't have the information I need. I won't repeat names if they appear in another year.(1911)Like/Love (32)Mary, Helen, Margaret, Dorothy, Ruth, Elizabeth, Frances, Alice, Florence, Evelyn, Louise, Catherine, Irene, Ruby, Grace, Virginia, Martha, Josephine, Edith, Lucille, Clara, Esther, Beatrice, Pauline, Elsie, Sarah, Mabel, Ida, Eva, Viola, Pearl, Eleanor (the names of my grandmother, mother, sister and aunt are all on this list).(1935)Like/Love (12)Patricia, Joan, Joyce, Jean, Beverly, Lois, Phyllis, Carolyn, Gloria, Geraldine, Jane, Marjorie(1963)Like/Love (14)Cynthia, Pamela, Brenda, Teresa/Theresa, Julie, Michelle, Denise, Kathleen, Christine, Angela, Rebecca, Rhonda, Laurie, Sheila (my name is on this list). We're a very boring and predictable family who seem to like the top names every genderation.

This is fun, I gave it a try too!The same thing happened to me - i prefer more names the farther back in time I go. I guess because the names from my and my mom's generation are pretty boring and tired for me.1937:
Marie, Helen, June, Betty, Marion, Frances, Nancy, Irene, Alice, Sylvia, Rose, Edith, Dorothy, Marjorie, 1959:
Cynthia, Darlene, Judith, María, Anna1983:
Amy, Natasha, Melanie, JuliaI know my great grandmother's birth year, but my country didn't keep records like this until 1920 apparently.
My country doesn't keep stats, but I've looked at the England and Wales lists for 1875, 1900, 1925 and 1950: very interesting! I've put an asterisk* next to names used in my family, and I've only considered names that, to me, could be fns. That eliminates Elizabeth, for one. And, no repeats.1875: Alice, Florence*, Emily*, Margaret*, Ann (prefer Anne*), Jane, Harriet, Lucy, Caroline*, Eleanor, Laura, Beatrice*, Susannah*1900: Dorothy*, Mabel, Eva*, Frances, Clara, Daisy1925: Jean*, Barbara, Edith, Evelyn, Sheila, Sylvia, Pamela1950: Linda, Jennifer, Janet, Gillian, Rosemary, Shirley, Irene, Heather, Helen
