The theme is "wanting to maintain tradition but having some Modern unconventionalism." That's the kind of flavors you get from that recipe. Imo, "having your cake and eating it too", but not for the better.

"Why are the red states so obsessed with -ley names?" Because it has a "sound" similar to traditional southern American names without authentically being them. Traditional southern american with *modern* flare. That's my understanding at least based on conversations with southern family members.
