For me, it's forever associated with the blonde character Elly May Clampett on the TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies". She was a Southern hick, not very bright, naive and tomboyish. It's too cutesy for a standalone name for my comfort level. I prefer it as a nickname for Elizabeth, Eleanor, Elena, Eliana etc...
